Conspicuous Transformation of a Ready Made Object: Hour Glass
THE CONSPICUOUS TRANSFORMATION OF EVERYDAY OBJECTS:
A CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS
Every day objects can serve as the stepping stone into creating new items. In the current ecological epoch that we reside in, there is an immense amount of pollution, from physical waste to contaminants present in the atmosphere. In the face of this environmental deterioration, why not make use of what we see around us to create new products and minimize the amount of waste we send through to landfills?
The items that we would usually throw away can be used as ready-mades. A ready-made is an existing object that an artist or designer would consciously choose to use to serve as the basis of a new product or reworked into a piece of art. The concept of transformation in this context links up to the theme of recyclability. Taking items that are already in existence and using them to create a new product with a new function allows for the creation of something with a greater meaning and providing a new purpose to the object. Many designers and artists have incorporated the concept of repurposing and transforming everyday objects into their designs. Andy Warhol is an example of one of these artists.
